A gentle guide to how plant medicine works within the 7Layers protocol, and what each layer of herbs is doing for your body, mind and spirit.
Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of healing on earth, and it remains one of the most sophisticated. Plants are not simply collections of active compounds. They are whole, intelligent organisms, and when prepared with care, they bring that wholeness into your system. Your herbal formula is specific to you, your constitution, and the particular pattern of imbalance you are carrying at this time.
The formula will likely change as you change. What your body needs in the first weeks of working together may be quite different from what it needs three months later. This is natural. Plants meet you where you are and help you move to where you are going.
Your herbal formula has been designed to work across specific layers of your system. Each herb has been chosen because it has a particular affinity with an organ, a body system, or an energetic layer that needs support right now. The seven layers below describe which plants work with which part of you and why. Not every layer will be included in every formula. Your practitioner selects only what is needed, because a focused formula is always more effective than a crowded one.
A few things that may help you understand and trust the process
Follow your practitioner's specific instructions. Most tinctures are taken in a little water. Teas are best taken without milk. Timing often matters: some herbs work best before food, others after.
Acute issues often respond within days. Deep or longstanding patterns may take 4 to 12 weeks to show noticeable change. Consistency matters more than any single dose.
A brief settling-in period is sometimes noticed in the first few days, particularly with bitter herbs. This is usually mild and temporary. Let your practitioner know if it persists.
Please inform your practitioner of all medications and supplements you are taking. Certain herbs interact with specific drugs. Your safety always comes first in formula design.
Most formulas are reviewed after 4 to 6 weeks. Do not run out before your review: continuity is important. Contact your practitioner if you need to reorder early.
Herbs work best when supported by the basics: enough water, enough sleep, and real food. Your practitioner may also offer dietary suggestions specific to your layer focus.
